While we cannot avoid to build \u2014 it’s where we live, rest, and work \u2014 buildings account for approximately 40% of global energy consumption and nearly one-third of greenhouse gas emissions. Ensuring that new buildings are sustainable and energy-efficient is essential for addressing climate change. Moreover, green buildings can provide benefits for employees, investors and bottom lines.<\/span><\/p>\n

The world can and must become more efficient and sustainable, and a broader value system approach is essential to achieve this. <\/span>Decarbonizing<\/b><\/span> both <\/span>existing and future buildings<\/b><\/span> is not only beneficial for the environment, health, reputation, and labor market, but it also makes financial sense. It\u2019s time for companies, real estate developers, regulators, and policymakers to adopt a <\/span>wider perspective<\/b><\/span> in their decision-making<\/span><\/p>\n

If the purpose of an <\/span>action changes<\/b><\/span>, the action itself shifts as well. This new way of acting\u2014the only approach to securing our future\u2014<\/span>can and must be certified<\/b><\/span>. <\/span>Sustainable building certifications<\/b><\/span>, also known as green building rating tools, assess and recognize buildings that meet specific sustainability requirements or standards. These certifications acknowledge and reward companies and organizations that build and operate <\/span>greener buildings<\/b><\/span>, encouraging them to push the boundaries of sustainability. They help kick-start the market by setting standards that elevate the ambitions of government building codes, workforce training, and corporate strategies.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are <\/span>various ways of labeling products<\/b><\/span> around the world, which makes it difficult to compare them and understand their environmental impact. <\/span>Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)<\/b><\/span> are <\/span>third-party verified<\/b><\/span> and follow the international standards ISO 14025 and ISO 21930, as well as the European standard EN 15804. This ensures that the impact is <\/span>measured consistently<\/b><\/span> worldwide and <\/span>adds credibility<\/b><\/span> to the data provided.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

pba<\/b><\/span> has obtained <\/span>validation and registration<\/b><\/span> from the International EPD System for three Environmental Product Declarations. EPDs mark a new milestone in pba\u2019s commitment to <\/span>reducing the environmental impact<\/b><\/span> of its products and services while reporting these impacts transparently. With EPDs, <\/span>pba<\/b><\/span> provides comparable, objective, and <\/span>third-party verified data<\/b><\/span> that demonstrates the environmental performance of its products.<\/span><\/p>\n

The foundation of an EPD is a <\/span>life cycle assessment (LCA)<\/b><\/span> that evaluates a product\u2019s environmental performance over its entire life cycle. It typically considers the full value chain, from <\/span>material extraction<\/b><\/span> to the manufactured product, its usage stage, and end of life. <\/span>pba<\/b><\/span>\u2019s EPDs are registered in the <\/span>International EPD System<\/b><\/span> and can be downloaded from the EPD Library: https:\/\/www.environdec.com\/library<\/a><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

EPDs are critical for <\/span>architects and planners<\/b><\/span> because they provide reliable, <\/span>comparable information<\/b><\/span> about the environmental impact of different building products, aiding in design decisions and supporting <\/span>sustainable building practices.<\/b><\/span> By considering the environmental impact of products, architects can minimize the negative effects of their projects on the environment and contribute to a more sustainable built environment.<\/span><\/p>\n

pba<\/b><\/span> provides <\/span>EPDs<\/b><\/span> for a wide range of <\/span>hardware<\/b><\/span> and <\/span>bathware<\/b><\/span> products.
